How to Flash a Radio on your Touch Pro 2 GSM
There's a number of reasons why you would want to upgrage (flash) your Radio. Sometimes a different Radio version will give you a better signal. Sometimes it will give you better battery life. Sometimes it will give you better download speeds. Sometimes it will fix your AGPS problems. Or sometimes it will cause those problems!
Which is the best Radio version? There is no "right" Radio version. Sometimes chefs of ROM's will recommend that you use a certain Radio version. If they do, use that version, since it is known to work best with that specific ROM! A radio that works perfectly with one ROM may not work that well with another ROM. Just try them until you find one that works. Luckily, flashing Radios is quick and doesn't even wipe any of your data! These work with ALL GSM Touch Pro 2's, not just T-Mobile.
You must first be HardSPLed. Do that HERE. You only need to do that once.
Radio Versions
First, pick a version to try. Use the one your ROM's chef suggests, or try a random one.
How to Flash the Radio
Flashing a radio is even easier than flashing a ROM! You won't even loose any data on your phone, so you can flash at any time, unlike flashing new ROM's. Just follow the instructions:
- You must first be HardSPLed. Do that HERE. You only need to do that once.
- Download your desired Radio. Pick one from above if you haven't yet.
- Save the downloaded file somewhere, like to your desktop.
- Decide if the downloaded file is an EXE or a .ZIP file:
- If EXE - Simply double click it!
- If .ZIP - Extract it to a location of your choice, and then run the CustomRUU.exe file
- Connect your phone via USB to your computer. Make sure ActiveSync is connected!
- Follow the instructions in the CustomRUU window (clicking Next and checking the boxes)
- Once the progress bar reaches 100%, your phone will reboot.
- You're FINSHED! The new Radio is installed.
- To check which Radio version you have: While Windows Mobile is powered on, hold Down on the volume slider and then press the Hard Reset button with your stylus. Release the Volume Down button but continue to hold the Hard Reset button until a new Red/Green/Blue screen appears. You can read your Radio version on that screen. Press the Hard Reset button to boot back into Windows Mobile.
TroubleShooting
Error [208]: File Open - Just click Exit, then try opening the CustomRUU.exe file again. Make sure you don't have any other ROM Update Utility windows open.
Error [260]: CONNECTION - Make sure that you connected your phone through USB to your PC, and that you selected ActiveSync connection. Also, make sure that the phone is on, of course. If your phone is left on the Red/Green/Blue screen, then that means your PC was attempting to install the driver for your phone, but couldn't install it in time. Simply give your PC some more time, wait for the Driver Installed Successfully message to pop up, and then run the CustomRUU.exe file once again! You can flash your phone on the Red/Green/Blue screen.
Error [262]: Update Error - You probably didn't
install HardSPL first. Otherwise, check your ActiveSync connection to your PC. Restart your PC and Phone and then try again.
